Frequently Asked Questions
Will the 3000K warm white really make my bedroom feel cozy instead of clinical?
Yes, the 3000K option sits in the warm-white range that designers use for living rooms and bedrooms. Paired with the dotless COB output, it produces a soft, candle-like wash on walls and headboards without the harsh spotlight feel of cheap SMD strips.
Does the dotless output actually look like a continuous bar of light on a backlit mirror?
That is exactly what COB technology is designed for. With 400 LEDs per meter packed directly onto the 3mm PCB, there are no visible hot spots or individual dots, so the reflection on the mirror reads as one smooth line of light.
Can I match the strip color to my existing decor without repainting the room?
Yes, the strip comes in eight color variants including 3000K, 4000K, 6000K, Red, Green, Blue, Ice Blue, and Golden Yellow, so you can pick a tone that complements your current palette rather than reworking it.
Will the strip ruin the look of my wall if I want a clean decorator finish?
The 3mm PCB is thinner than a pencil, and the 3M backing mounts flush against the surface. Once installed, the strip itself nearly disappears, especially in aluminum profile channels or behind a picture rail, leaving only the glow visible.
Is the CRI90 rating going to make my art and fabrics look better under the light?
CRI above 90 means the light renders reds, skin tones, and textile colors much closer to natural daylight than the CRI 70 to 80 strips you find at big-box stores. For accent lighting on a gallery wall or upholstered headboard, the color will look noticeably richer.
I'm redecorating my living room and want subtle accent lighting, not a nightclub effect, is this the right product?
For a refined living room look, the 3000K or Golden Yellow variant in an aluminum profile channel along a cove or behind a media console gives a soft, indirect wash that reads as architectural lighting rather than party decor.
I want a soft glow behind my TV panel, will the strip show dots on the wall?
No, the COB density of 400 LEDs per meter eliminates the dot pattern that is visible on standard 60 or 120 LED strips. The light hits the wall as a smooth gradient, which is the look most designers want for TV backlighting.
I'm styling a small bedroom, will the strip make the ceiling look lower?
Indirect cove lighting actually raises the perceived ceiling height because the eye reads light hitting the upper wall as height. Mounting the strip behind a crown molding detail is a common decorator trick to add verticality to compact bedrooms.
Does the golden yellow option look trendy or tacky in a designer space?
The Golden Yellow tone reads as a warm amber rather than a primary yellow, which is the shade currently used in hospitality and boutique hotel design. Customers often pair it with linen, rattan, and brass accents for a curated look.
How does this compare to string fairy lights for a cozy bedroom?
String lights create sparkle points and require visible wire, while this COB strip delivers a single, even line of glow that can be hidden completely inside molding or under a shelf. For a polished, designer-style cozy look, the strip is the cleaner option.
Is the strip slim enough to hide inside a picture rail?
Yes, the 3mm PCB is the slimmest width available in COB strips and fits inside most standard picture rail recesses, shoe molding gaps, and shallow aluminum profile channels where an 8mm strip would protrude.
What does 3000 lumens actually mean for a 5 meter bedroom run?
3000 lumens spread across 5 meters is plenty of light for accent duty and full room ambience in a small to mid-size bedroom, especially with a dimmer. For pure task lighting, a smaller section will be more than adequate.
Will a smart-home decorator find this strip easy to integrate into a designed space?
Because the strip is so slim and dotless, it disappears into the architecture. Designers often specify it inside custom millwork, behind floating shelves, or along a fireplace mantel where visible hardware would break the look.
How long will the color stay consistent across the run?
COB strips from the same batch maintain consistent color across the entire length, and with CRI above 90 you get tight binning so the warm white does not shift yellow on one end and pink on the other like cheaper strips.
I'm worried the strip will look cheap or DIY, will it photograph well for a styled home?
The dotless output and 3mm profile give it a finished, professional look that photographs like built-in architectural lighting. It is the same look interior designers charge hundreds per foot to install.
Is the adhesive strong enough to stay up on a textured wallpaper?
On heavy textures, applying extra 3M VHB tape at the corners and cleaning the surface with isopropyl alcohol first will keep the strip secure. The included backing tape works best on smooth, sealed surfaces like painted drywall or laminate.
How do I cut the strip and reattach wires between two pieces?
Cut only at the marked copper pads, which appear every 10mm. Use a sharp blade, peel back a small section of the silicone coating at the pad, and tin both the pad and the wire with a soldering iron. Solder the positive and negative pads to matching polarity wires, then seal with heat-shrink tubing for a clean, durable connection.
What power supply do I need to buy separately?
The product ships without a power supply. For the 12V strip you need a 12V DC adapter rated for at least the wattage of your run, and for the 24V version a 24V DC adapter. A 5 meter run at 30W needs at least a 36W power supply with 20 percent headroom, so a 12V 4A or 24V 2A adapter is a safe minimum.
Can I dim the strip, and what dimmer do I need?
Yes, the strip is fully dimmable. For best results, use an in-line PWM dimmer rated for 12V or 24V DC depending on the version, or a touch dimmer that mounts between the power supply and the strip. Make sure the dimmer's amperage rating matches or exceeds the strip's draw.
Will this strip work with a 12V battery or solar setup?
Yes, the 12V variant will run directly off any regulated 12V DC source including a 12V battery bank, a motorcycle electrical system, or a 12V solar charge controller. The 24V variant requires a regulated 24V source, often a step-up converter on a 12V battery.
Is the strip compatible with smart home systems like Alexa or Google Home?
The strip itself is a passive LED load, but you can add smart control by putting a smart plug, a smart LED controller, or a Zigbee/Z-Wave dimmer between the power supply and the strip. Most common 12V/24V smart controllers on the market work with Alexa, Google Home, and Apple HomeKit through their companion apps.
What is in the box when I open it?
Each order includes one 5 meter roll of the 3mm COB LED strip with the 3M double-sided adhesive backing pre-applied, and a small instruction card with cut points and wiring notes. Power supply, dimmer, connectors, and aluminum profile channels are sold separately, which is noted clearly on the listing.
Is the strip safe to leave on 24 hours a day?
Yes, COB LED strips are designed for continuous duty. The 12V/24V low-voltage operation, low heat output, and solid-state LEDs make 24/7 use safe in normal indoor conditions. For longest lifespan, mount the strip on a surface that allows some heat dissipation, such as an aluminum profile, and avoid sealing it inside an airtight enclosure.
How long will the strip last before the LEDs start to dim?
Quality COB LED strips are typically rated for 30,000 to 50,000 hours of use, which translates to roughly 10 to 15 years of normal residential use at 8 hours per day. Running the strip dimmed, keeping it cool, and using a regulated power supply all extend its usable lifespan.
What is the difference between COB and SMD LED strips?
SMD (Surface Mount Device) strips place individual LED chips spaced apart on the board, so you can see distinct dots of light. COB (Chip-on-Board) strips pack hundreds of tiny LED chips directly onto the PCB under a continuous phosphor coating, which produces a smooth, dotless line of light. COB is the newer, higher-end option and is what most architects and designers specify for visible accent lighting.
